Letter: Give top priority to America's woes

North Korea's escalating threats toward America concern our national leaders far more than the blood-drenched streets of Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and most of our great cities. Reports of wounded and dead make headlines daily; many of these victims are women and young children; many more are gang members; many victims are not even targeted, they are simply collateral damage.

America's growing scandal of hungry children, lower standards of living for the middle class, and the commonplace violence in our adult and juvenile prisons should take higher priority than concerns about North Korea, Iran and hate groups that make verbal threats toward America.

Gang violence across America isn't going to just go away. As long as the upper class and high-profile politicians and leaders are relatively safe in their gated communities, with their well-paid guards, it's going to get far worse. Take the blinders off your eyes, President Obama, Governor Cuomo, state and federal legislators, and confront the real problems now. Don't use verbal threats from North Korea and Iran as red herrings to evade the street crimes and gang wars that should be among our top priorities now.
