Letter: Hopefully Obama's words will resonate with Israelis

I commend you for your editorial "Mr. Obama's case for peace," March 29.

The president made important points that he didn't dare say before the Israeli parliament without risk of being booed or provoking an embarrassing walkout. He appealed over the heads of Israel's politicians to the younger generation.

President Barack Obama not only called for a Palestinian state, he denounced settler violence and warned that nether occupation nor expulsion is the answer. I hope his bold words will resonate with the Israeli public.

Obama's remarks remind me of the Hebrew prophets. The prophets were scolds. They used harsh, outspoken and candid language when they believed Israel and the Jewish people were acting contrary to Jewish values. That's the case today with the mistreatment of the Palestinians.

I endorse your editorial's call for a two-state solution though I'm wary that continued settlement building will reach such a point that a solution is no longer viable. I hope my fears are unfounded.
