Letter: Personal freedom an imprisonment

Thank you for publishing David Brooks' commentary "Maximum freedom could lose in court decision," April 3. It describes clearly the illness that pervades our nation: enslavement to personal freedom — the corporate person, the private person, the unrestricted, unidentified support of political candidates, men's impregnation of women with no commitment to the life that follows, my fertilization of my lawn without regard to bird life, gun ownership with no restriction on magazine size.

We all have become seriously ill with freedom fever.

Gays are now seeking legal marriage for them by the state. Such marriage will restrict their freedom.

Could this spirit move the rest of us to limit our freedoms in love of neighbor?
