Charles Ramsey's rescue of three kidnapped women in Cleveland, earned him a "hero's reward" of free food at McDonald's for the next year ("Kidnap case hero gets year of free McDonald's food," May 24).
Kudos for his efforts, but Mr. Ramsey should first watch Morgan Spurlock's 2004 documentary "Supersize Me" in which he participates in a 30-day experiment eating McDonald's morning, noon and night and medically documenting the resulting numerous health problems that ensued at an alarmingly immediate rate. Given the well-documented health effects of Mr. Spurlock's 30 days, Mr. Ramsey would do well to consider what a full year could do to his health.
Americans should be profoundly disturbed by the success of the fast food industry and its indifference to the ironically self-defeating detriment to its customers' health. They are no doubt targeting the next generation of customers while they slowly kill off the previous generation.
This was no reward but an opportunity for the Golden Arches to spread their brand among an unenlightened or apathetic population.
