Letter: Tonko misleads his constituency

Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, voted against a bill last month that prohibits abortion after 20 weeks. This means that Rep. Tonko supports abortion even when the baby in the womb can feel pain.

Before he cast his vote, I called Rep. Tonko's office urging him to vote in favor of protecting infants and I requested his official position.

After he voted against the bill, I received a letter from him stating that he "shares my conviction," but he ignored my request and never stated how he voted.

As a public official, Rep. Tonko has an obligation to tell his constituents how he voted and to be forthright with that information; he did not fulfill this obligation.

Rep. Tonko deliberately misleads his constituents, withholds information and hides his voting record. Remember his dishonesty when Election Day comes next year.
