I am not sure how tearing down and rebuilding our Park South neighborhood is considered accomplishing "great" things ("$110M transformation," July 24).
The reasons I bought my house in this neighborhood are: I am centrally located; it was a nice neighborhood; and everything I needed was within walking distance.
Our neighborhood was completely ignored by the city of Albany from the time I bought my house in 1987 until about seven years ago. The absentee landlords did or didn't do anything they wanted. The neighbors living in the homes they owned were ignored and forgotten. I believe the Park South Neighborhood Association started making the city take notice of our problems.
Why couldn't the city have offered grants to the homeowners in our neighborhood?
Albany Medical Center is a monster. A new neighborhood is being created with, I'm sure, a much less diverse group of people.
Our neighborhood is being wiped out. I have always known where I own my home is a good place to live. It is too bad it will soon be too expensive for me to live there, and no longer a real neighborhood.
