Letter: Letter-writers should keep up the good work

Two excellent letters were recently published: Emily Halpin ("Teach children real-life lessons," July 18) and Beth Dare ("Why New York needs a revolution," July 18).

Ms. Halpin's opinion of what our classroom needs is right on. I have longed for teaching the basics such as managing money and what it takes to have decent home living situations. These things are needed now more than ever, because they are not being taught at home, that's for sure.

Ms. Dare's letter about why should she and her partner settle in New York only to have their hard-earned money stolen by politicians is also right on. It won't be long before many cities in New York will end up like Detroit. A person making $50,000 cannot be expected to pay for someone getting a $100,000-a-year pension.

Congratulations to these women for their righteous letters.
