The article regarding the Dudley Observatory ("Dudley Observatory finds home at miSci," Aug. 9) brought back old memories because I grew up in the Pine Hills section of Albany.
I remember walking over to New Scotland Avenue and South Lake as a teen with a group of young neighbors in the early evening. On different nights of the week, the observatory would open its doors to the public and allow everybody to look through its telescope at the night sky. The astronomers would sometimes take requests and would always give a brief lecture as to what was the object being observed.
The observatory disappeared in the 1960s and relocated to Fuller Road. I miss the old days of Albany, and the good clean fun we all had.
