Letter: Obamacare may hurt Democrats

Will Obamacare determine the future of our nation? Critics of Hillary Rodham Clinton will tie her to President Barack Obama's promise, "You can keep your doctor and your insurance if you like it," which was patently false.

Did he really think that you can increase benefits dramatically without driving up the costs of "Swiss cheese" policies that many young Americans want? Ms. Clinton will be forced to go on the record whether she supports Obamacare, believes President Obama was telling the truth when he made that promise or whether it was a calculated ploy to pass the legislation.

Demographics work against us and drive health care costs — "boomers" are older, more obese and sicker than our parents; there are more of us; and we require expensive health care.

The old and sick will love Obamacare, but it will be reviled by the young and healthy; there will be a growing generational war pitting pensioners, Social Security, Medicare and Obamacare beneficiaries vs. the young.

If Obamacare implodes prior to 2016 it could cost Democrats dearly, leading, possibly, to a tea party-leaning unified government for eight years including at least three Supreme Court nominees.

Its implosion is predictable due to what will surely be a dramatic rise in premiums that will be caused by insurers trying to make a profit and cover the expense of additional benefits.

Within two years, the Congressional Budget Office could release a report that Obamacare and Medicaid expansion will either explode the deficit or require additional taxes.
