We have heard much about the Affordable Care Act, "Obamacare." And, most certainly, the access to quality, affordable and timely medical treatment is not only desirable but of paramount importance. But I'm concerned politicians now are forcing some health care positions onto religious institutions that are inconsistent with those institutions' teachings and principles.
These officials are ignoring these institutions' First Amendment protection to practice religion free of governmental interference. I worry this course could lead to religions having to submit their teachings to a governmental panel for approval.
Politicians need to devote their energies to meeting our many civil problems and let the religions manage their practices and teachings.
