I am amazed at the ignorance displayed by those commenting on the presidential race.
I have read those claiming that Mitt Romney wants to eliminate Medicare and Social Security. Mr. Romney wants to restructure these programs so they can survive. Without changes, these programs will simply run out of money.
I have read about tax dollars going to subsidies for big oil. The oil companies do not get subsidies; they take advantage of legal tax advantages that are in the tax laws. I'm not saying the tax laws shouldn't be changed. But, until then, the oil companies are doing what any business is entitled to do.
I have read that Mr. Romney wants to take away Big Bird. He is suggesting cuttings the funding of PBS. Speaking with the credentials of a 46-year career in television, with today's technology, cuts could be made without effecting a single viewer's access to PBS programming.
Also, "Sesame Street'' is a financial bonanza. PBS is a great entity for our country, and no one wants to see it go away. However, sooner or later, it will need to survive on its own.
Spending must be reined in. If changes aren't considered, debated and made, this country will end up like Greece. If the national debt continues to climb, we are heading down the path of financial destruction.
The misinformation to voters comes from both sides of the political aisle. Let's deal with facts, not just repeating what's heard on the cable news network from commentators with slanted opinions.
