Letter: Minor parties a viable choice

New York is considered a safe state for President Barack Obama so we have been spared the barrage of insipid attack ads dominating swing states. Many potential voters are uninspired, finding no good reason to vote. Let me appeal to these voters: Cast a vote that will make a difference and resonate through American politics for years; vote for a third-party candidate.

Voting for someone other than a Republicrat will send a message that we will no longer tolerate corporate sponsorships of presidential elections. If we vote for Democrats and Republicans, we only validate their decisions to ignore the issues and simply pour ever-increasing corporate dollars into ads that offer no substance.

Why have the "corporate candidates" not addressed the environment? Real financial reform? Transition to a new economy? Reforms to our democracy? The answer is simple — the big money that fuels their campaigns opposes any discussion of these issues.

I favor Jill Stein of the Green Party, but there are others. In New York, a vote for the minor party candidate of your choice is the vote that matters most and demonstrates opposition to corporate sponsorship of our presidential election.
