In 1974, Cleveland Amory published a book titled "Man Kind?: Our Incredible War on Wildlife" that discussed wildlife preservation and the moral and ethical aspects of hunting and trapping. Has anything changed?
What are we doing to our bobcats? Is there a biological need for doubling to 1,000 the number that can be taken yearly ("Season will be expanded on bobcat," Oct. 18)?
Certainly, this should not be for some stuffed trophy or fashion statement. Also, has enough consideration been given to other animals that may be caught in traps meant for bobcats? Let's also think about how we are interfering with nature's balance.
We must ask the state Department of Environmental Conservation to reconsider the new parameters for bobcat hunting.
