The investigation into the retail energy market by the Public Service Commission will be worthwhile. Administrative oversight of the deregulated wholesale and retail natural gas and electricity markets can improve energy service ("Retail energy option costly," Oct. 19).
During the past 20 years, our society has experienced a variety of fraud, swindles and deception by various executives. The Public Service Commission's investigation may protect consumers, such as governments, school districts, businesses and residents, who are dependent on natural gas and electricity from people seemingly willing to swindle others in our free market.
Meanwhile, energy service providers of reliable green energy plans can enhance the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to reduce air and water pollution while constructing renewable energy generation facilities. Responsible municipal governments implementing the New York State Energy Plan will enhance our environment and economy. So will honest energy service providers and diligent academic institutions that apply to the National Science Foundation for research and development program grants to improve renewable energy generation.
