I could not believe what I was hearing: Gov. Andrew Cuomo, instead of complimenting the hard-working people engaged in the cleanup of New York City, strongly criticizing the power companies ("State's utilities put on notice," Nov. 6). He stated the power companies would be "held accountable" for the rate of progress in returning power to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Why would Gov. Cuomo issue such a negative message? What respect and understanding could he expect to get out of such a message, a message criticizing the very people working under extreme conditions to restore services as quickly as possible?
If Gov. Cuomo chooses to place the blame on others for what he calls a lack of quick response, does he truly understand the valiant efforts of those repair crews from New York and beyond?
My heart and my prayers go out to the families of all those who lost their lives, the many victims and the responders who continue to work to clean and restore services.
Our governor lost my respect and perhaps the respect of others with this tirade. Additionally, he has lost my vote.
