Herbert W. Reilly Jr., in his letter ("Cemeteries need to relax rules," Dec. 9), questions the rules regarding grave decorations at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.
I placed a 24-inch potted Christmas tree on my son's grave one day; the next, it was gone.
I was shocked that someone would take it. I thought only the most heartless scrooge would do something like that. I found it in a pile behind the cemetery office with other decorations taken from other graves.
What total disregard and disrespect for those of us trying to remember our loved ones, especially our children.
Instead of cemetery workers driving around in golf carts policing illegal floral arrangements, their time would be better spent fixing the markers that are so deeply embedded in the ground and covered with grass that they are barely visible.
Meanwhile, in St. Agnes Cemetery, headstones have been toppled on the ground for years. I've heard it's the family's responsibility. But aren't some so old no family may be left?
Maybe money collected for the Bishop's Fund could go to repairing headstones instead of going to other countries. pat scalzetto
