We write this letter in support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's recent decision to delay issuing regulations on hydrofracking until better health studies are completed.
It takes courage to stand up against the intense pressure being exerted by the gas industry. Coupled with the governor's recent signing of tougher gun-control laws, we cannot help but be reminded of Gov. Mario Cuomo's principled stand against capital punishment in the 1980s.
We believe hydrofracking is the defining issue of our time. We do not want to suffer the same fate as our neighbors in Pennsylvania.
We can only hope Governor Cuomo will continue to act responsibly and not allow gas companies to drill. To do otherwise would imperil our water, air, soil and health.
